The Salem Award for Human Rights and Social Justice is a 501(c)(3) organization. The mission and purpose of the Foundation is to recognize, honor, and perpetuate the commitment to social justice and human rights of an individual and/or organization whose work is proven to have alleviated discrimination and promoted tolerance of any kind. The Foundation is organized to recall the lessons of the Salem Witch Trials to foster tolerance, compassion, and reconciliation; to develop and broaden the community's understanding of current iniquities; to publicly recognize an individual and/or organization working to improve the plight of others who suffer discrimination and injustice; and, to support the public monument, The Salem Witch Trial Memorial.
